Going shopping
Shopping is always pleasant, especially if you blend it with sightseeing, not forgetting to rest on the way in a summer cafe or picturesque park. There are many different shops in Kyiv. Small private boutiques selling souvenirs and foodstuff and big supermarkets, where you can find anything you need. The diversity of prices can be quite big - from moderate and reasonable to almost skyrocketing, aimed at snobs and thick wallets.
The shops work from 10:00 to 20:00. The foodstuff shops open a little earlier - at 8:00 or 9:00. Some supermarkets work until 23:00. In any district you will find shops working 24 hours a day and it will not let you starve in the middle of the night. Most shops do not have days off and lunch breaks.
If credit cards are accepted in the shop, you will see corresponding signs on the entrance door of at the cashier's office. But it would be good idea to have some cash in store.
Souvenir shops are mostly located in downtown. Here you can buy ceramics, original wood crafted utensils, and unique hand-made embroidery in the national tradition and different jewelry. We also suggest you should go to Andreyevsky Spusk, where you can find souvenirs at any taste - from a clay dzvinochok (bell) to a modern landscape of Kyiv.
Expensive boutiques are located in ate area of Kreshchatik, Vladymirskaya, Artema, Lva Tolstogo and Kransnoarmeyska (now Velyka Vasilkivska) streets. If you are looking for an elegant coat or a stylish swimsuit, this is the place to go.
Salons and antique shops are also located downtown. Their exquisite displays attract one's sight, forcing to stop by and then come in and buy something as a memory of Kyiv.
